IOWA CITY, Iowa – Sophomore Kyle Higgins set a personal best in the 100 butterfly to highlight the second day of the NCAA Championships for the Kentucky swimming and diving team.
Higgins swam a 47.21 in the 100 butterfly, a personal best time and the fourth fastest in the event in program history. The sophomore bested his previous best of 48.12, set earlier this season, by 0.91 seconds. Higgins finished 39th overall.
Fellow sophomore Brandon Flynn also raced on Friday in the 400 individual medley. He placed 34th with a 3:51.20.
“Kyle was great today,” UK head coach Lars Jorgensen said. “He swam a good race against a tough field and really improved on his personal best time. We’re excited for a good final day of competition tomorrow, where we’ll have all three Wildcats in action.”
The three-day NCAA Championships concludes on Saturday. Higgins will race in the 200 butterfly and Flynn will compete in the 1,650 freestyle. Freshman diver Levi Lindsey will make his NCAA debut on platform.
