LEXINGTON, Ky. – For the ninth consecutive season and the 15th time in program history, the Kentucky men’s golf team will be among the field at the Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, Ga. The Wildcats are set for the three-day 54-hole event beginning on Friday and set to wrap up on Sunday.
“The Schenkel Invitational is just a terrific event that we have played in for many years,” UK head coach Brian Craig said. “Forest Heights Country Club presents many challenges and does a wonderful job of identifying the best team that week. This team is making progress and is ready to play our best. This would be a good week for us to break out.”
UK has finished in the top 10 in every tournament throughout the 2014-15 season. Junior David Snyder leads the Wildcats with a 73.0 stroke average on the season and four top-20 finishes on the year. Freshman Tyler `Chip’ McDaniel has appeared in the lineup in each of UK’s seven tournaments this season. He’s currently averaging a 73.1 stroke average and has the Wildcats’ lone victory on the year, with a first place finish at the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational in the fall.
Joining UK’s top-two stroke leaders are freshman Cooper Musselman, sophomore Stephen Stallings and junior Harrison Greenberry. Musselman, like his classmate, has been among UK’s starting five in every tournament this season. Stallings was second on the team with a 25th-place finish in the Wildcats’ last event the Querencia Cabo Collegiate. Greenberry will be making his spring debut after appearing in three tournaments in the fall.
Fifteen teams will be among the field this week at the Forest Heights Country Club. A par 72 event featured at 6,962 yards. It marks the 36th annual tournament this week in Statesboro, Ga. UK will be joined in the field by defending champion and host Georgia Southern.
Additionally, Auburn, College of Charleston, Florida, Iowa, Louisville, N.C. State, North Florida, Ole Miss, South Alabama, UAB, UCF, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest comprise the field.
Live stats will be available throughout the tournament at golfstat.com. The players will all tee off from the first hole between 9-11 a.m. ET each day.
