LEXINGTON, Ky. — Consistent heavy rains over the last 24 hours has postponed Kentucky baseball’s home midweek tilt with Cincinnati on Tuesday, with the Wildcats now venturing to face the Bearcats in Cincinnati on Wednesday, with first pitch slated for 4 p.m. ET at Marge Schott Stadium.

Heavy rains forced a postponement of UK’s scheduled game with Cincinnati on Tuesday. With weather causing scheduling issues throughout college baseball’s first four weeks, the Wildcats worked to reschedule the game and will now travel to face Cincinnati on Wednesday with first pitch at 4 p.m.

The game will be broadcast live on the UK Radio Network, with the Voice of UK Baseball, Neil Price, calling the action. Fans in Central Kentucky can hear the game live on Fox Sports 1580-AM and UKathletics.com.

UK will turn to sophomore right-hander Robert Zeigler (1-0, 7.36 ERA) for his second career start on Tuesday vs. the Bearcats. Zeigler has worked in three games and tossed 7.1 innings, allowing seven this and two walks, striking out nine. In his last start on March 1 vs. Mount St. Mary’s, Zeigler worked five innings, allowing only two hits and two runs, striking out a career-high six. UC will start freshman righty Tanner Schimmoeller (0-0, 13.50 ERA) in his third career appearance and first start. He has worked four innings, allowing four hits and six runs, walking three and striking out three.

Kentucky (12-3) will face off with the Bearcats in its final test before conference play begins for the Wildcats at No. 6 South Carolina on Friday. UK enters the game riding a 10-game winning streak, tied for the seventh-longest streak in program history.

UK posted a 5-0 week to open its home schedule, starting with a 4-1 win over Murray on Tuesday in the home lidlifter, before sweeping the twinbill with a 4-3 win in the nightcap. With the weekend looming and UK slated to host UMass in a four-game series. but with the Minutemen displaced by winter storm Thor, UK found a nearby foe in a similar situation in Northern Kentucky. The Wildcats posted a three-game sweep over the Norse, getting a complete-game shutout from Zack Brown in the opener, a 6-0 win that saw the sophomore righty allow only two hits and no walks in an 11-strikeout outing on Saturday. UK then swept its second doubleheader of the week on Sunday, a 7-6 result in the opener and a 9-4 win in the finale.

Kentucky has hit .306 as a team in 2015, with a .392 slugging and a .388 on-base percentage. UK has belted 24 doubles and two triples, ripping six homers and scoring 92 runs in 15 games, stealing 24 bases. On the mound, UK has a 3.35 team ERA in 137 innings, walking 45 and striking out 135, holding opponents to a .232 average. Over the 10-game winning streak, UK has a 2.27 team ERA and have held opponents to a .214 average.
