HILTON HEAD, S.C. — Facing a field that features 11 of the last 14 national champions and 12 of the top 20 teams in the country, the Kentucky women’s golf team posted a 26-over-par 310 at the opening round of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate on Friday in Hilton Head, S.C.

Playing in frigid conditions at the Long Cove Club for most of the day, not a single team in the stacked field finished even or below par. UK currently sits in 17th place but is just 10 shots removed from the top 10.

No. 3 USC leads the field at one-over par, followed by No. 8 LSU at seven-over par, and No. 4 Arkansas, No. 6 Duke and North Carolina all at nine-over par.

Sophomore Ale Walker and junior Sarah Harris were the low finishers for the Wildcats on Friday with rounds of 76 (five-over par). Both in the top 50 in the individual standings. Walker recorded the most consistent round of the day with 13 pars.

Right behind Harris and Walker in a tie for 56th place is sophomore Haley Mills with a score of 77 (six-over par). Mills started on the back nine and was actually tied for first at one-under par through 10 holes, but a difficult stretch to close the sandwiched her in the middle of the field.

Nicholasville, Ky. native Grace Rose finished at 10-over par, and freshman Isabelle Johansson, playing in her second collegiate tournament, currently sits at 13 over for the round.

The Wildcats will return to the par-71, 6,221-yard Long Cove Club on Saturday beginning at 8:30 a.m. with Johansson on hole No. 10.
