San Jose del Cabo, Mexico – Freshman Tyler ‘Chip’ McDaniel and junior David Snyder both fired a 1-over par 72 to pace the Kentucky men’s golf team on the opening day of the Querencia Cabo Collegiate on Sunday. The duo sit in a tie for 23rd place overall on the individual leaderboard.
The field consists of 11 top 50 ranked teams and the Wildcats own leads over seventh-ranked LSU and No. 39 Arkansas. No. 2 Florida State leads the field after totaling a 9-under par 275 in the opening day of play. Kentucky sits just eight strokes off of the third place teams, No. 14 Stanford and No. 19 Washington, with 2-under par 282s. Kentucky logged a 6-over par 290.
Snyder and McDaniel both charted two birdies in their opening rounds of play to pace the Cats. McDaniel played the back nine at even par, while Snyder was even through the first nine holes.
Freshman Cooper Musselman and sophomore Stephen Stallings each carded a 2-over par 73. Musselman was under par over the opening nine holes. Stallings matched senior Will Bishop with a team-high three birdies in the opening round of play. Musselman and Stallings are tied for 36th.
The tournament is a par-71 and will play at 6,873 yards on day two. Eighteen holes will begin with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. ET on Monday, while the final 18 holes will begin Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m. ET.
