UK Soccer Announces 2015 Signing Class

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Five players signed national letters of intent to play soccer at Kentucky beginning in the fall of 2015, the program announced on Thursday.
Kentucky inked Tanner Hummel (defender, Kennesaw, Ga.), Christian Kirol (defender, Columbia, S.C.), Luke Treadway (forward, Edgewood, Ky.), Harper White (goalkeeper, Louisville, Ky.) and Cooper Whitfield (forward, Mansfield, Texas).
We are very excited to announce the next class of Wildcats,” UK head coach Johan Cedergren said. “Coach Casper and Coach Wileman have done a great job identifying players that are not only talented soccer players, but are also committed to the values that we hold on and off of the field. These players will address some areas of need, and also help to bring our team to new heights.
“These players are willing to come in and take the challenge of representing the Big Blue Nation, and we believe they will do a great job taking on that task.”
The signing class of five represents four states (Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina and Texas).

I have seen few players match the type of intensity that he brings day in and day out. Cedergren on Kirol: “We expect Christian to compete for time along the back line. He can play center back or fullback. Christian brings us good size, strength and great feet. Cedergren on Treadway: “Luke is a goal scorer. He has led the National League the last two seasons in goals scored. If you give him a chance around the goal he will most likely finish it. He has good pace and battles against players as hard as anyone I have ever seen despite even when he’s at a deficit in size. I can envision Luke playing up top or out wide for us in the fall.” Prior to UK: A goal-savvy forward that can play centrally or out wide … Played club for Cincinnati United Premier for Terry Nichol … played at Scott High School for Dahlian Anderson … Part of the state runner-up high school team in 2014, and won the District and Regional Title that year … Has extensive experience in national club competitions, having won the US Youth Soccer National Championship in 2012 and played in elite tournaments multiple times, reaching the latter stages more than a dozen times … Scored 30 goals in 2014, 19 in 2013, 36 in 2012 and 20 in 2011. Cedergren on White: “Harper works hard every day. As a goalkeeper he will be expected to push the other goalkeepers to their max. He has very good size, good hands, and is quick. I have seen him make some saves that I didn’t think he would get, and then he kept surprising me. I look forward to Harper adding depth to our goalkeeper group.” Prior to UK: A high-potential goalkeeper with uncanny shot-stopping ability who will add depth to UK’s goalkeeping corps … Played for Thabane Sutu for United 1996 FC, and also played for Kentucky Fire Juniors and Lexington FC … Played for Brad Davies at Louisville Collegiate School … Went 14-4-2 last season at Louisville Collegiate en route to the A State Championship … Was a state finalist with United 1996 FC in 2011 and made the state final four multiple times … A First Team Kentucky All-State selection as a senior and also All-State as a junior … 2014 All “A” State MVP. |
