LEXINGTON, Ky. – The fifth-ranked Kentucky rifle team scored a 4677 in its NCAA Qualifier match on Sunday inside Buell Armory.
Also shooting in the Lexington sectional was Morehead State, which scored 4596.
“Overall we performed well today,” UK head coach Harry Mullins said. “Our air rifle is starting to come together, but we need to learn to close the big numbers. I feel we have a strong air rifle team and that we can put up better numbers then what we saw today.
“In smallbore I feel we are still leaving a lot of points out there that we need to reel in. That is going to be the focus for the next week. Now we will have to wait and see if our numbers today were good enough for us to move on to the NCAA Championships.”
Kentucky entered the weekend averaging an aggregate score of 4684.33, which ranked fifth in the nation.
Kentucky scored a 2315 in smallbore and 2362 in air rifle.
Sonya May led UK in smallbore with a 583. Jon Pinkel and Jason Sharbel each scored 579s. Connor Davis notched a 574 and Heather Kirby recorded a 566.
Pinkel and Davis were UK’s top-two performers in air rifle, each scoring 591. May and Kirby notched 590s and Sharbel shot a 582.
