Trey LylesOn what it was like going to the free-throw line with 6.8 seconds left in the first overtime …“I just knew I had to step up to the line and knock them down. I missed two earlier. I knew that the game was on the line, on me, so I had to knock them down.”On if he was surprised at starting this game so sluggishly after the OT game against Ole Miss …“I think we were a little bit sluggish again today. It goes back to us needing to have energy on the court and Coach is requiring it from us, so next couple days, before Tuesday (against Missouri), we’re going to talk about that as a team and we’re going to get that down to make sure that Tuesday we come out with a lot of energy.”On the lack of offensive rebounding in the first half …“I think guys – just back to the energy part – weren’t playing with a lot of energy. The second half, guys came out really trying to crash the boards. And in overtime … we were getting put-backs, getting fouled and going to the free-throw line.”On the message at the end of the second overtime to close out the game …“That this is just our time to separate, and (if) we go out there and play with a little bit more energy and the second overtime (we) rebound and knock down the shots – we’d get going.”On how important it was for him to make those last two free throws …“It was very important, but you know, every basketball player misses a shot, so you have to forget about it and move on to the next free-throws.”On what Cal said to them …“Just that we needed to pick up our energy again and if we play for one another we’d win, so he just required us to go out there and play with energy and just finish the game.”On why he thinks the energy wasn’t there …“I don’t know … I just try to go out there and play as hard as I can, and I’m pretty sure everyone else did the same, so we just need to collaborate as a team and just work on our energy.”Dakari JohnsonOn having a strong performance in overtime …“I just tried to step up for my team. I knew that we had to make plays.”On if he thinks conference play will continue to be like this – going into overtimes …“For me, last year – I’m kind of used to it. We know that this is every team’s Super Bowl. Everybody is going to give us their best shot and we just have to do a better job competing and going out there as a team from now on.”On Ulis’ big 3 …“We knew to separate from them — we needed a little separation from them — so you needed to step up and make a big play, and that’s what he did.”On getting so much fan support when they go to road games …“It’s crazy. Again – just the best fans in the world. A lot of them are from different areas, a lot of Big Blue Nation is from different areas, so when we travel there’s going to be fans there.”On having trouble getting buckets inside …“I don’t know. The other team was doing a good job to lock us out, but that’s on us to finish better and especially this particular stuff. Just finishing better around the rim and play through contact.”On feeling like he’s aggressive enough …“I think I am, but at the same time Coach Cal is always telling me that I need to be more explosive around the rim and get up quick. And that’s something I need to work on … over the next couple of days.”On the team knocking down some big free throws to win the game after struggling early on …“Just says that guys want to win. We practice free throws every day in practice. Guys stay behind to practice their free throws.”On if they would’ve won a game like this last season …“No, I mean I don’t think so. Guys just made plays at the end. That’s all I’m worried about. You know, we have a lot of competitors and we all got together and wanted to win this game, and so guys stepped up and made plays.”
