LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky volleyball sophomore Kelsey Wolf has been selected to the Southeastern Conference’s Community Service Team, the league announced Wednesday.
A Cincinnati, Ohio, native, Wolf leads the team in community service hours and is one of 12 conference players named to the 2014 SEC Volleyball Community Service Team. She is named to the team for the first time in her career.
Wolf has played with children at the UK Children’s Hospital and has participated in the FCEA Read Across America event. She has spent time with residents at Hope Lodge and was a volunteer for the YMCA Healthy Kids Day and the Back Pack Program. Wolf also volunteered at the Cardinal Hill “Fun Day” event and helped with the UK Children’s Hospital Blanket Project.
She talked with underprivileged children in the Lexington outreach program about student-athlete life and commitment. Wolf served as a volunteer at a middle school volleyball clinic and at the YMCA Big Brown Tractor Pull.
A defensive specialist for the Wildcats, Wolf was also named to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Recognizing the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom, Wolf owns a 3.93 grade-point-average and is pursuing a degree in Marketing and Management.
Wolf has played in 27 matches for the Wildcats in 2014. She has recorded 148 digs, fifth-best on the team, along with 12 assists and one service ace. Wolf logged a season-best 11 digs on Sept. 12 at North Carolina and matched that total a week later in a 3-1 win over Xavier. In Kentucky’s season-opener, Wolf recorded a career-high-tying three assists in a 3-0 win over Wichita State.
No. 13 Kentucky earned its program-record 10th consecutive NCAA Tournament bid and will host the first and second rounds for the third consecutive year. The Wildcats host Oakland at 7:30 p.m. ET Friday, December 5. Lipscomb will face Ohio State in the first match at 5 p.m. in Memorial Coliseum, while the winners will square off in the second round on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET.
Head coach Craig Skinner has led the Wildcats to the NCAA Tournament in all 10 seasons as head coach. Kentucky is one of just 10 teams in the country to advance to the tournament in each of those 10 seasons.
