UK Diver Christa Cabot Named SEC Diver of the Week

Oct. 21, 2014

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky senior Christa Cabot was named the Southeastern Conference Women’s Diver of the Week after winning both diving events with season-best scores vs. Florida on Oct. 16.

The SEC Diver of the Week award is the first of Cabot’s career. A two-time All-American in 2014, she won both the 1- and 3-meter springboard competition with season-best scores. It is also the first league honor for the Wildcats in the first two weeks of the 2014-15 season.

“Christa earned two good wins last week,” UK head diving coach Ted Hautau said. “She faced some very tough competition against the Gators’ Kahlia Warner and a good Florida team, but I’m proud of the way she fought.”

A native of The Woodlands, Texas, Cabot claimed her first victory of the season with a 327.83 in the 3-meter event. The senior bested Florida’s Kahlia Warner by just over four points. In the 1-meter event, Cabot tallied a 327.45, also a season-best to win by over 20 points over Warner.

“We are extremely proud of Christa,” head coach Lars Jorgensen said. “She had a fantastic meet against Florida and continues to develop into an elite diver. We look forward to many more great dives from her this season through the NCAA Championships.”

Against Florida, UK swept all four diving events. Along with Cabot, freshman diver Levi Lindsey won the first collegiate event of his career in the 3-meter before a win in the 1-meter springboard competition.

Kentucky hits the road for the first time this season, Oct. 31 in Knoxville, Tennessee. The Wildcats face SEC foe Tennessee, in addition to Indiana at 2 p.m. ET. UK returns home Nov. 7 and 8 for a quad meet featuring Missouri, Northwestern and Southern Illinois. Competition begins at 1 p.m. with the diving events, while swimming commences at 6 p.m. on Nov. 7 at the Lancaster Aquatics Center. The schedule for Nov. 8 will be announced at a later date, tentatively set to begin at 9 or 11 a.m.
