LEXINGTON, Ky. – Coming off its fourth-straight NCAA Regional appearance, the University of Kentucky women’s golf team released its 2014-15 schedule head coach Golda Johansson Borst announced Thursday.
“This year’s schedule will offer, what we believe to be, great competition in preparation for the NCAA Championships in May,” Borst said. “The tournaments and courses we’ve got scheduled will offer championship caliber conditions for our student-athletes and we’re excited to get underway.”
The Wildcats begin the 2014 fall portion of the schedule Sept. 8-10 at Texas A&M’s “MO”Morial Invitational at the Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas. UK claimed the “MO”Morial Invitational championship last season, led by then freshman Haley Mills, who won the individual championship.
For the third-straight season, Kentucky will compete in the Mason Rudolph Championship in Franklin, Tenn., Sept. 20-22. Last season, the Wildcats placed 10th in the Mason Rudolph Championship, hosted by Vanderbilt University.
Kentucky then travels to Wilmette, Ill., for the Windy City Classic on Oct. 6-7, before wrapping up the fall slate on the west coast in the Stanford Invitational from Oct. 17-19.
The Wildcats open the spring season Feb. 8-10 with the UCF Challenge in Orlando, Fla. UK is very familiar with the UCF Challenge, having played in the tournament three of the last four years, including a fourth-place finish last year, as well as in 2011. After nearly a month off, the Wildcats head to Hilton Head, S.C., for the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate from March 6-8. The three-day tournament will be held at the Long Cove Club.
The Cats then return to Baton Rouge, La., for a fifth consecutive year at the LSU Tiger Golf Classic March 27-29. Two former Wildcats have posted top 10 finishes in the tournament including Haley Mills’ seventh place finish last season and Ashleigh Albrecht’s tie for seventh place in 2013.
To conclude the spring season, Kentucky will compete in the Bryan Park Intercollegiate in Greensboro, N.C., April 3-5.
For the third straight year the SEC Championship (April 17-19) will be contested at Greystone Golf & Country Club in Birmingham, Ala. Kentucky will look to build off an eighth-place finish in last season’s SEC Championship.
NCAA East Regional action runs May 7-9 at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh, N.C. The NCAA Championships will take place in Bradenton, Fla., at the Concession Golf Club, May 22-27.
