LEXINGTON, Ky. — A total of 21 Kentucky baseball standouts concluded their 2014 seasons by playing in collegiate summer leagues, with Zach Arnold, Kyle Barrett, Marcus Carson, Kyle Cody and JaVon Shelby each earning all-star accolades during the year.

Zach Arnold

Played for the Wisconsin Woodchucks in the Northwoods League, earning postseason Northwoods League All-Star accolades … Played in 44 games, hitting .304 (42-for-138) with 27 runs, eight doubles, two homers and 21 RBI, sporting a 11-23 walk-strikeout ratio … Arnold went 2-for-8 in his two playoff games … Also came on to pitch an inning, allowing no hits and two walks in one inning on July 30 … Ran up a 19-game hitting streak from June 30 to Aug. 1 … After his hitting streak was snapped, finished the summer on a five-game streak.

Kyle Barrett

Earned the starting centerfield spot in the Cape Cod League All-Star Game … Played in 37 games in the Cape, hitting .313 (40-for-128) with 22 runs, three doubles, one triple, six RBI and 10 steals … Had a 7-24 walk-strikeout ratio … Was one of eight players in the Cape Cod League to hit over .300 and steal at least 10 bases … Ranked 17th in the CCBL in average.

Bryce Bastien

Played for the Caldwell Warriors in the All-America League … Hit .299 (20-for-67) in 24 games … Had three doubles, one triple, one homer and 15 RBI, owning a 10-12 walk-strikeout ratio … Was also hit by six pitches.

Zack Brown

Played for the Amsterdam Mohawks in the Perfect Game Collegiate League, teaming with UK teammates Marcus Carson, Connor Heady and JaVon Shelby … Made eight appearances and seven starts for Amsterdam, owning a 3-2 record and a 3.75 ERA … Worked 36 innings, allowing 28 hits and 17 walks, striking out 34.

Marcus Carson

Starred for the Amsterdam Mohawks in the Perfect Game Collegiate League, joining UK teammates Connor Heady, Zack Brown and JaVon Shelby on the squad … Named to the All-PGCBL post-season team … Also named a PGCBL All-Star starter in centerfield … Hit .346 (45-for-130) with 38 runs, eight doubles, two triples and 12 RBI … Stole 14-of-18 bases and owned a 24-20 walk-strikeout ratio … Was also plunked by eight pitches.

Kyle Cody

Was the starting pitcher for the Western Division in the 2014 Cape Cod League All-Star Game … Was on the Wareham Gateman … Made nine starts during the summer, with a 2-3 record and a 2.72 ERA in 36.1 innings, allowing just 34 hits and 11 walks, striking out 34 … Finished the summer ranked eighth in strikeouts and 10th in ERA.  

Ryne Combs

Played for the Orleans Firebirds in the Cape Cod League … Worked in 12 games in relief for Orleans, with a 1-0 record and a save in 13.2 innings, owning a 9.22 ERA … Worked 13.2 innings, allowing 21 hits and 14 walks, striking out nine.

Greg Fettes

Hit .343 (34-for-99) in 34 games with the Fulton Railroaders in the Ohio Valley League, joining Tyler Marshall and Troy Squires on the club … Belted five doubles and three homers, driving in 18 runs and drawing 24 walks.

Dorian Hairston

Played in 32 games with 23 starts for the Newark Pilots in the Perfect Game League … Hit .188 (15-for-80) with 19 runs, three doubles and 13 RBI … Drew eight walks and struck out just 13 times, stealing four bases.

Connor Heady

Played in four games for the Amsterdam Mohawks in the Perfect Game Collegiate League … Hit .214 (3-for-14) with two RBI, two walks and one steal.

Taylor Martin

Started eight games for the Stasburg Express in the Valley League … Had a 1-2 record and a 5.36 ERA, working 40.1 innings, allowing 19 walks and 45 hits, striking out 42 … Had quality starts vs. Cannons and the Royals.

Tyler Marshall

Played for the Fulton Railroaders in the Ohio Valley League, joining UK teammates Greg Fettes and Troy Squires … Hit .270 (30-for-111) with two doubles, and 13 RBI.

Andrew Nelson

Played in 11 games with nine starts for the Victoria HarbourCats in the West Coast League … Had a 0-4 record and a 7.15 ERA in 44 innings, allowing 52 hits, 29 walks and striking out 24.

Blake Oyler

Pitched in 15 games with one starts for Elimira in the Perfect Game League … Had a 1-2 record and a 4.15 ERA with three saves … Worked 21.2 innings, allowing 24 hits and four walks, striking out 19.

Austin Perry

Started seven games for the Mooresville All-Americans in the All-American League … Had a 4-1 record and a 4.00 ERA in 36 innings, allowing 27 hits and 13 walks, striking out 34.

JaVon Shelby

Starred for the Amsterdam Mohwaks in the Perfect Game Collegiate League, joining UK teammates Zack Brown, Connor Heady and Marcus Carson … The starting shortstop for the Eastern Division in the PGCBL All-Star Game … Hit .239 (32-for-134) with 23 runs, 12 doubles, three homers and 21 RBI … Had a 21-23 walk-strikeout ratio and stole nine bases.

Matt Snyder

Started 11 games for the Willmar Stingers in the Northwoods League … Had a 3-3 record and a 5.70 ERA in 53.2 innings … Issued 25 walks, allowed 57 hits and struck out 44 … Entered his last start with a 4.01 ERA before allowing 11 runs in two innings.

Zach Strecker

Started eight games for the Valley Blue Sox in the New England Collegiate Baseball League … Had a 2-5 record and a 3.19 ERA in 50.2 innings, allowing just eight walks, 54 hits and striking out 30 … Worked at least six innings in all but one start, including at least seven innings in five starts.

Ka’ai Tom
Played in four games with the Wisconsin Woodchucks in the Northwoods League … Hit .417 (5-for-12) with five runs, one double, one RBI and one steal.

Storm Wilson

Played in 36 games for the Valley Blue Sox in the New England Collegiate Baseball League, teaming with Zach Strecker … Hit .254 (30-for-118) with three doubles, one triple and four RBI, stealing eight bases … Had a 7-25 walk-strikeout ratio.

Robert Zeigler

Played in eight games with five starts for the Lima Locos in the Great Lakes Collegiate League … Had a 1-1 record and a 4.12 ERA in 24 innings … Allowed 18 hits and 20 walks, striking out 30.
