USAswimming.org: Schedule, Heat Sheet and Live Video
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Thirteen University of Kentucky swimmers will compete at the USA Swimming 2014 National Championships, Aug. 6-10, in Irvine, Calif.
Drew Aviotti, Christina Bechtel, Kelly Berger, Kendal Casey, Michael Christian, Kendra Crew, Scott Crosthwaite, Brandon Flynn, George Greenhalgh, Kyle Higgins and Abby Myers are joined by incoming freshman Bridgette Alexander and 2013-14 senior Eric Bruck.
Heats begin each day at 9 a.m. PT, while finals will commence at 6 p.m. Live results can be found at USAswimming.org, in addition to a complete psych sheet. Live video and more information is also available on the National Championships page on USAswimming.org.
The premiere annual event on the USA Swimming calendar, the 2014 Phillips 66 National Championships features some of the nation’s top swimmers. The event serves as the USA National Team selection for several international events, including the 2014 Pan Pacific Championships, 2015 World Championships, 2015 World University Games and the 2015 Pan American Games.
The 13 UK swimmers will swim a total of 32 times in 24 events over the course of the five-day event.
Bechtel and Myers swim in the first event of the National Championships, the women’s 200 butterfly on Aug. 6. Higgins competes in the second event of the day, the men’s 200 butterfly, while Berger and Casey race in the women’s 800 freestyle. Flynn and Aviotti swim in the men’s 1,500 freestyle, the final individual event of Wednesday’s prelim races.
Thursday, Casey and Crosthwaite lead off for UK in the women’s and men’s 200 freestyle, respectively. Crew and Greenhalgh each will compete in the women’s and men’s 200 breaststroke and Alexander and Christian swim in the women’s and men’s 200 backstroke. In the 50 butterfly, Bechtel and Myers race in the women’s event and Higgins in the men’s to cap the second day of competition.
On Aug. 8, Flynn opens for UK in the men’s 400 individual medley, while Bechtel, Myers and Higgins will swim in the women’s and men’s 100 butterfly. Greenhalgh will compete in the men’s 50 breaststroke, and Alexander will race in the women’s 50 backstroke event.
Saturday, Casey swims in the women’s 400 freestyle to open the day, while Crosthwaite and Flynn compete in the men’s 400 freestyle. Greenhalgh races in the men’s 100 breaststroke and Alexander in the women’s 100 backstroke.
On the final day of competition, Berger and Casey will each compete in the women’s 1,500 freestyle. Flynn and Aviotti swim in the men’s 800 freestyle, and Bruck races in the men’s 50 freestyle to close out the competition for UK.
