ATHENS, Ga. – University of Kentucky women’s tennis player Nadia Ravita was eliminated in the first round of the NCAA Singles Championship by Clemson’s Romy Koelzer Wednesday morning, at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga. Ravita, ranked 47th nationally, fell 3-6, 6-3, 3-6 to No. 33 Koelzer.
In the first set, Ravita pulled out to a 2-0 start over Koelzer. Koelzer won five straight games to take the lead. Ravita began to claw away at her 5-2 deficit, winning another game and dropping Koelzer’s advantage to 5-3, but Koelzer finished out the set on top, 6-3.
Ravita came back in the second set, winning 6-3. Exchanging the first two games, the Jakarta, Indonesia native expanded her lead to 5-3 and never looked back. Ravita topped the Tiger, 6-3. Her win forced a third and final set. Koelzer defeated Ravita 6-3 in the tiebreaking set.
The sophomore finishes her season with an overall singles record of 11-9 and 4-6 in Southeastern Conference play.
Seniors Cece Witten and Caitlin McGraw will compete in the NCAA Doubles Championships, Thursday, against Northwestern’s Alicia Barnett and Veronica Corning. No time has been set for the match.
