TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The University of Kentucky women’s golf team saw its season come to an end Saturday afternoon in the NCAA East Regional at the SouthWood Golf Club after posting a team score of 34-over par, 898, to finish in 19th place. The Wildcats recorded a final round score of 11-over par, 299, on Saturday.
No. 12 Vanderbilt won the 2014 NCAA East Regional with a team score of 24-under par, 840, while No. 5 South Carolina (-10), NC State (-4), No. 2 Duke (-4), No. 8 Stanford (+2), No. 20 Virginia (+5), Tulane (+7) and Campbell (+15) also qualified for the NCAA Championship in Tulsa, Okla., May 20-23. Vanderbilt’s Jenny Hahn was the top individual at 9-under par, 207.
Rounding out the rest of the team standings were No. 14 Pepperdine (+16), Baylor (+17), Florida State (+18), East Tennessee State (+18), Texas State (+21), East Carolina (+22), No. 24 Auburn (+23), Georgia (+24), No. 17 UCF (+26), Louisville (+32), UK (+34), Troy (+43), Seton Hall (+48), College of Charleston (+50), Murray State (+70) and Alabama State (+73).
Senior Liz Breed was the top UK finisher, tying for 41st at 5-over par, 221 (72-78-71). Breed carded the low round for Kentucky on the day with a 1-under par, 71. She finishes her career ranked near the top of the program charts in season scoring average, par or better rounds in a season and for a career and total rounds played.
Freshman Haley Mills shot 9-over par, 225 (73-75-77), for the tournament to tie for 69th. Mills recorded a final round score of 5-over par, 77. The Tyler, Texas, native capped a very solid freshman campaign for Kentucky, as she ranked second on the team in scoring average, while also winning the “MO”Morial Invitational. She had two top-10 finishes and four total top 20 finishes this season.
Sophomore Cylia Damerau shot a 6-over par, 78, on the final day of competition to finish the tournament tied for 77th and 10-over par, 226 (75-73-78). Damerau recorded three top-20 finishes, including a top 10 finish in 2013-14. Sophomore Sarah Harris tied for 89th this weekend at 12-over par, 228 (76-78-74). Harris collected an eagle during the final round in which she carded a 2-over par, 74.
Freshman Alessandra Walker placed 111th with a final score of 18-over par, 234 (75-82-77). Walker was 5-over par on Saturday.
The Wildcats wrap up the season with four top-five finishes as a team, including a team title at the “MO”Morial Invitational.
