LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky freshman women’s golfer Megan Kinney has been named to the Southeastern Conference Women’s Golf Community Service Team, the league office announced Friday afternoon.

Kinney, a native of Frankfort, Ky., has participated in the Back Pack Program Delivery, Breakfast with Santa, Salvation Army Bell Ringing, UK Children’s Hospital blanket project, while also mentoring students at Russell Cave Elementary School during her first year on campus for the Wildcats. She is one of just two freshmen recognized on the SEC Community Service Team.

This season Kinney has competed in four tournaments for UK and owns a stroke average of 81.08. In her first collegiate tournament, the “MO”Morial Invitational, Kinney tied for 58th with a score of 246. She recorded her low 54-hole score at the LSU Tiger Golf Classic with a 240 (80-81-79).

The annual SEC golf Community Service Team recognizes the superior community service efforts of the league’s student-athletes. The SEC Community Service Team consists of one student-athlete from each SEC institution, nominated by his school’s personnel, who has devoted himself to community service.

The SEC names a Community Service Team for each of its 21 league-sponsored sports, looking to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his or her community through superior service efforts.
