LEXINGTON, Ky. – Following a freshman season that consisted of 15 wins in singles play and 17 wins in the doubles competition, freshman Aldila Sutjiadi was named to the 2014 Southeastern Conference All-SEC Second Team, announced by league offices Wednesday afternoon.
A native of Jakarta, Indonesia, Sutjiadi spent most of her time playing at the No. 2 position in both doubles and singles, but was also a force at the No. 1 singles position where she posted a 4-2 record. At the No. 2 singles position, Sutjiadi boasted an 11-6 record, including seven wins in conference play. The freshman also garnered four wins over ranked opponents.
Sutjiadi played a major part in defeating No. 7 seed Auburn to end a four-match losing streak and send Kentucky to the quarterfinals of the SEC tournament. She overcame No. 109 Flickinger in a three-set match, 3-6, 6-2, 6-0, to give Kentucky the lead. This was the second time Sutjiadi competed against Flickinger this season, the first when Kentucky hosted Auburn on March 28. In that meeting, Sutjiadi dealt the Tiger her third loss of the dual match season with a 6-1, 7-5 win.
In doubles play, Sutjiadi holds a 17-6 record at the No. 2 position for the dual match season. Partnered with fellow Jakarta, Indonesia native, Nadia Ravita, the pair earned 11 wins, eight coming against SEC opponents. The pair is ranked 54th nationally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
This is the third consecutive season that a freshman has been selected to the second team All-SEC or All-Freshman team. Ravita was named All-Freshman and second team All-SEC last season and juniors Edmée Morin-Kougoucheff and Stephanie Fox were named to the All-Freshman team in 2012.
