LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky volleyball team continued its spring season with a 3-1 win over Ohio State in its lone home contest Saturday in Memorial Coliseum.
The Wildcats posted 25-19, 25-20 and 25-19 set wins to claim the match 3-0 before the two squads played a fourth set, which the Buckeyes won, 26-24.
“I’m pleased with our defensive effort and our serving,” UK head coach Craig Skinner said. “We did a nice job of creating scoring opportunities with our serves and our attack and point scoring out of the back row is developing into a great weapon for us.”
Freshman Anni Thomasson once again paced the offense with 11 kills, while junior Lauren O’Conner had 10 and sophomore Shelby Workman notched nine. Sophomore Morgan Bergren hit .364 with six kills.
O’Conner also had five service aces to lead the Wildcats to a total of 11 aces in the match. Junior Jackie Napper had 20 digs to lead UK’s defensive effort. Kentucky also recorded 19 blocks, with Thomasson and freshman Emily Franklin each with five.
UK’s spring schedule concludes Saturday with a head-to-head matchup against Illinois in Champaign, Ill.
