LEXINGTON, Ky. – Coming off a seventh-place finish at the LSU Tiger Golf Classic, freshman golfer Haley Mills was named Southeastern Conference Freshman Golfer of the Week, it was announced Wednesday by the league office.

Mills receives her first SEC weekly honor, while becoming the second Wildcat this season to earn an SEC honor. Sophomore Cylia Damerau was named SEC Golfer of the Week on Feb. 12. Mills becomes the first UK women’s golfer in the program’s history to earn SEC Freshman Golfer of the Week honors.

The Tyler, Texas, native helped lead the Wildcats to a third place team finish in Baton Rouge, while recording her second straight top 15 finish and third of the season by placing seventh. She finished the 54-hole tournament with a score of four-over par, 220 (73-73-74), including a team-best nine birdies over the weekend. She now ranks second on the team with a season scoring average of 73.81, while tied for the lead with two top 10 finishes.

Mills and the Wildcats return to action in the final regular season tournament, the Rebel Intercollegiate in Oxford, Miss., from April 4-6. For more information on the University of Kentucky women’s golf team please visit UKathletics.com and follow on Twitter @UKWomensGolf.
