BATON ROUGE, La. – The first round of the LSU Tiger Golf Classic is in the books and the University of Kentucky women’s golf team is tied for third place after 18 holes following a 14-over par, 302, on Friday afternoon. Due to the possibility of inclement weather on Sunday, the final 36 holes will be played Saturday. Tee times will begin Saturday morning at 9 a.m. ET with a shotgun start.

Purdue sits atop the team standings at nine-over par, 297, while SMU (+11), Arkansas (+14) and UCF (+15) complete the top five. Purdue’s Aurora Kan leads all players at one-under par, 71. Kan was the only player to finish the round under par.

Rounding out the rest of the team standings were LSU (+16), Baylor (+18), Tulane (+20), Missouri (+24), UNCW (+27), UTSA (+28), Louisiana-Monroe (+29), Notre Dame (+30, Denver (+30) and TCU (+35).

“We played pretty solid today and did a lot of great things for the majority of the round,” said head coach Golda Johansson Borst. “Unfortunately, we made some mistakes on the last few holes that hurt us, but we have two more days to get after it so we are focusing on that. You have to really grind on this golf course and if we keep doing that tomorrow, we will be in good shape.”

Kentucky was led by freshman Haley Mills on Friday who collected a one-over par, 73. Mills recorded a team-best three birdies on day one. The Tyler, Texas, native will enter the second round tied for fourth and looking for her second straight top 10 finish. She is only two strokes behind the leader Aurora Kan of Purdue.

Sophomore Sarah Harris and freshman Alessandra Walker each finished the day at four-over par, 76, and tied for 17th. Senior Liz Breed is tied for 28th after the initial round. Breed scored a five-over par, 77, on Friday.

Finishing out the UK lineup was sophomore Cylia Damerau who carded a 10-over par, 82. Damerau is tied for 63rd. Playing as an individual, freshman Megan Kinney scored an eight-over par, 80, which places her in a tie for 56th
