STATESBORO, Ga. – The University of Kentucky men’s golf team dropped two spots on the leaderboard Saturday afternoon after a second round team score of four-over par, 292. Final round action begins Sunday at 8:30 a.m. ET with a shotgun start.
The Wildcats are in 11th place at 10-over par, 586, with only 18 holes to play. Georgia Southern sits atop the standings at 14-under par, 562, while No. 14 UAB (-10), College of Charleston (-9), North Florida (-7), No. 15 Texas (-3) and No. 6 UCF (-3) complete the top five. Texas’ Kramer Hickok and UAB’s Martin Rohwer are tied for the lead at six-under par, 138.
Rounding out the rest of the team standings were Georgia State (-2), No. 10 Virginia (-1), Ole Miss (+7), North Carolina State (+9), Florida (+14), Duke (+15), Maryland (+26) and North Texas (+29).
“We had about as bad of a start as you can imagine,” said Kentucky head coach Brian Craig. “We kept battling to get out of the hole, but the scores were pretty low today. Tomorrow is another day and this team will bounce back.”
Coming into today, junior David Snyder was tied for the lead at four-under par, but struggled on day two. Snyder turned in a three-over par, 75, to drop his total score to one-under par, 143. He is tied for 19th place going into Sunday’s final round.
Kentucky’s low round on Saturday belonged to senior Stephen Powers who recorded a one-under par, 71. Powers is just one stroke behind Snyder at even par, 144, through 36 holes and tied for 23rd. Senior Cody Martin recorded an even par, 72, in the second round and stands at five-over par, 149 for the tournament. Martin is tied for 50th.
Junior Will Bishop is tied for 64th after two rounds at seven-over par, 151. Bishop collected a three-over par, 75, on Saturday. Filling out the UK lineup was senior Ben Stow who could not have started the day much worse, as he recorded four bogeys and a double-bogey on his first nine holes. The Salisbury, England, native regrouped on the back nine by registering no bogeys and four birdies to finish the day two-over par, 74. Stow is tied for 73rd at nine-over par, 153.
Playing as an individual, freshman Hager Collins finished the day with a 13-over par, 85. Collins is in 90th place with a 23-over par, 167.
