LOS CABOS, Mexico – Another tournament, another top five finish for the University of Kentucky men’s golf team after a fourth place finish at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate on Tuesday. The Wildcats posted a team score of 20-over par, 872, to give UK its sixth top-five finish through six tournaments this season.
Kentucky turned in a final round score of three-over par, 287. No. 11 Houston won the team title with a total score of 11-over par, 863, while No. 1 Alabama (+12), Baylor (+18), No. 16 Vanderbilt (+23) and SMU (+23) complete the top five. Houston’s Roman Robledo won the individual championship at four-under par, 209.
Rounding out the rest of the team standings were No. 17 Arkansas (+30), LSU (+31), Chattanooga (+45), Ole Miss (+46), Lamar (+46), UT Arlington (+54), Coastal Carolina (+74) and Abilene Christian (+109).
“This team is making progress and that is satisfying to see,” said UK head coach Brian Craig. “I am proud of all of them, but especially Will Bishop and David Snyder for bouncing back today and playing well when it mattered most. The Querencia Cabo Collegiate is as fine of an event as there is in men’s golf. We loved being here and now look forward to our next challenge at the Schenkel Invitational.”
Leading the way for the Wildcats was senior Ben Stow with a final score of one-over par, 214, to tie him for fourth place. The Salisbury, England, native finished the tournament with his second straight round of one-under par, 70. The top five finish is his second of the season and third in the top 10. He recorded four birdies on the afternoon to give him nine for the tournament.
Seniors Cody Martin and Stephen Powers finished tied for 14th with scores of six-over par, 219. Martin scored a four-over par, 75 in the final round, while Powers finished the day with a three-over par, 74. Powers and Stow tied for the team-lead in birdies for the week with nine, while Powers also added an eagle on the first day.
Junior David Snyder saved his best round for the final day, finishing with an even par, 71. Snyder wrapped up the three-day event tied for 58th at 13-over par, 226. Fellow junior Will Bishop also played his best round on Tuesday, turning in a scorecard of one-over par, 72. Bishop tied for 58th with a score of 19-over par, 232.
