LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky rifle team wrapped up smallbore competition at the Great America Rifle Conference Championships on Saturday, sitting in third with a 2308, trailing West Virginia and Nebraska.
“It’s always disappointing when you don’t put the numbers up that you’re hoping for,” UK head coach Harry Mullins said. “We’ve got to move on from today and focus on our tomorrow. Hopefully we’ll get a good night’s rest and come out ready to face the task at hand in the morning.”
Sophomore Connor Davis led the Wildcats throughout the day, wrapping up with a 579.
GARC Shooter of the Year Emily Holsopple finished one point behind Davis, shooting a 578. Coming into the weekend Holsopple averaged 585.6 in smallbore.
Junior Jonathan Pinkel posted a 576 on Saturday, while senior Aaron Holsopple shot a 575. Freshman Sonya May rounded out the UK counters with a 574.
West Virginia came away on top after smallbore, shooting a team score of 2337. Nebraska posted the second best number with a 2314, while Kentucky sits in third, nine points above fourth-place Army.
The GARC Championships will wrap up Sunday with air rifle competition. The Wildcats are set to compete at 8 a.m.
