BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 38 University of Kentucky women’s tennis team was handed its second loss of the spring season when the team competed against No. 36 Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind. on Sunday afternoon. Indiana edged the Wildcats in a tough match, 4-3.
Kentucky got off a to a strong start claiming the doubles point and early 1-0 lead. UK senior twosome, Cece Witten and Caitlin McGraw, notched a win over Katie Klyczek and Carolyn Chupa, 8-7 (7-5). The Jakarta, Indonesia natives Nadia Ravita and Aldila Sutjiadi clinched the point with an 8-3 win over Sophie Garre and Kayla Fujimoto.
McGraw extended Kentucky’s lead with a win over Paula Guttierrez in the No. 5 singles position. She won decisively 6-1, 6-2 over the freshman. No. 56 Nadia Ravita was the last Wildcat to score with a 6-1, 6-3 win over No. 65 Katie Klyzcek. Indiana tallied four straight points to take the match over the Wildcats.
Kentucky drops to 9-2 for the season, both losses coming from ranked opponents. They return to Lexington, Saturday, Feb. 22 to take on Kansas before entering conference play against Louisiana State University.
