LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky diver John Fox finished 27th in the preliminary round of the 3-meter competition at the 2013 USA Diving Winter National Championships in Austin, Texas, Wednesday.
“John was consistent today,” UK diving coach Ted Hautau said. “He wasn’t moving like he normally does but had no big mistakes. He was very good mentally, just didn’t have a lot of scoring today.”
Fox placed 27th with a final score of 295.70. The senior was going up against 29 other competitors at the USA Diving event. The field also included former UK diver Corey Cowger, who finished 30th with a final score of 228.30. The top 18 finishers advanced to the semifinals, while the top 12 from the semis go on to the finals.
Tuesday, on the first day of competition, Fox was 17th in the men’s 1-meter springboard with a final score of 287.20. UK junior Christa Cabot placed 13th among 33 divers in the women’s 1-meter springboard with a 241.05.
While no other UK divers will compete again, the six-day Winter Nationals continues through Dec. 22, where a total of 10 national titles will be awarded.
The winter nationals will be used to select the divers who will represent the United States in both individual and synchronized diving events at 2014 FINA Grand Prix meets as well as the individual events for the 2014 FINA World Cup.
