LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky women’s basketball senior forward DeNesha Stallworth will miss three-to-four weeks after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery on her left knee, head coach Matthew Mitchell announced Wednesday.
“DeNesha Stallworth had an arthroscopic procedure this morning,” UK Hoops Coach Matthew Mitchell said. “A piece of articular cartilage was floating in her left knee, so she had a scope this morning that went well and that will sideline her for, we are thinking right now, about three-to-four weeks. Not the kind of news you want to hear, but we are glad it was nothing serious. Her knee just kept swelling after the Baylor game. Not quite sure when the injury took place. We have moved forward dealing with it and have a lot of confidence in our medical staff and we think she will be back good as new here in three-to-four weeks.”
Stallworth becomes the third post player to miss time this season. Senior forward Samantha Drake (Bardstown, Ky.) and freshman forward Kyvin Goodin-Rogers (Lebanon, Ky.) are both out for the season with an injury and illness, respectively.
Stallworth, a Richmond, Calif., native, is second on the team in scoring at 14.2 points and 7.0 rebounds per game, while shooting 56 percent from the field. Stallworth also leads the team in steals with 16. She was named Southeastern Conference Player of the Week on Dec. 2 for her play during wins over Bradley and No. 4/3 Louisville. In the two games, Stallworth averaged 14.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. She scored 15 of her team-high 16 points in the second half of UK’s comeback win vs. Louisville.
Against No. 9 Baylor, she charted 16 points, nine rebounds and a game-high four steals in 33 minutes of action.
The All-America candidate has reached double figures in seven of the nine games this season and is currently on the watch lists for every major national player of the year award, including the Wade Trophy, Naismith Trophy, Senior CLASS Award and John R. Wooden Award.
