LEXINGTON, Ky. – Junior University of Kentucky women’s soccer player Emma Brown was named to the 2013 Southeastern Conference Community Service Team after compiling over 100 hours of community service this season, it was announced by the SEC office.

“It’s a great honor for me to be named to this prestigious team,” Brown said. “We are blessed as student-athletes to have a great platform to be able to do great work in the Lexington community, and we all take that very seriously. The trip I took to Africa with UK Athletics was a life-changing experience, and something I will never forget.”

Brown has logged over 112 community service hours in her three years in Lexington. Brown recently was selected by the UK Athletic department staff to attend an educational service trip to Ethiopia over the summer of 2013, where she helped to develop relationships with the African people, and assist in their community.

Brown has also been actively involved in God’s Pantry at UK, helping to pack and hand-deliver bagged lunches to local schools in the area for children.

The Louisville, Ky., native is in her third year studying Integrated Strategic Communication and currently maintains a 3.48 grade point average. On the field, Brown has logged extensive time this season as a forward, seeing the pitch in every SEC the entire regular season. 

Brown got her first-career start in 2013, as well as her first-career SEC start against Alabama on Sunday, Oct. 20, in UK’s 4-2 win. 

Kentucky has advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the second year in a row, and will face No. 2/2 UCLA on Friday night at 10:30 p.m. ET at Drake Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif.
