LEXINGTON, Ky. — After scoring eight goals in its last two games, the Kentucky men’s soccer team will wrap up its 2013 home schedule with Wright State on Tuesday, with kickoff slated for 7 p.m. ET at the UK Soccer Complex.
Kentucky (6-8-2) will conclude its 2013 home schedule with the matchup with Wright State, which was rescheduled from Aug. 30. The Wildcats are coming off back-to-back wins in league action to clinch a berth in the 2013 Conference USA Tournament.
On Wednesday, UK posted a 2-0 win in a must-win situation at Marshall, getting the game-winning goal from senior Tyler Riggs and a penalty kick goal from Brad Doliner, with sophomore Callum Irving saving five shots for the clean sheet.
In Sunday’s win on senior day, Riggs stole the show with the ninth hat trick in Kentucky history, getting all three of his goals in the second half, a span of 24 minutes played. Riggs was joined in the scoring column by senior Steven Perinovic and freshmen Kaelon Fox and Ryan Creel.
The Wildcats have netted 22 goals in 16 games in 2013, allowing 20 tallies and owning a 1.21 goals-against average with five shutouts. UK also has advantages in shots (256-155) and corners (97-70).
Individually, UK has been led in scoring by Doliner, who has five goals and one assist. Riggs has five goals, with sophomore Isak Krogstad owning four goals and two assists. Freshmen Napo Matsoso and Sam Miller each have a goal and four assists, with junior Justin Laird leading the team with six saves. Fox has two goals and one assist, with Jacob Scearce sporting a goal and two assists. Creel and Charlie Reymann each have a goal and an assist, with Perinovic owning one goal. Bryan Celis has added three assists, with Matt Quick also adding an assist.
In goal, Irving has a 1.06 goals-against average in 12 games, saving 33 shots and sporting five shutouts. Senior Jack Van Arsdale has played in five games with a 1.63 goals-against average, saving seven shots, including two on senior day Sunday vs. FAU.
Wright State (5-9-1) is coming off a 2-1 overtime win at Detroit on Saturday and have won two of the last three games. The Raiders have netted 18 goals in 15 games, allowing 23 tallies and a 1.45 goals-against average. Individually, Brett Elder has six goals and two assists, with Eric Lynch owning two goals and six assists. Chris Dupont has two goals and three assists, with Derek Zuniga owning a goal and two assists. Wesley Cain, Jacob Stovall, Michael Hayes, Austin Seifert, Emeka Ononye and Erik Anderson have each added a goal. In goal, Tyler Blackmer has a 1.35 goals-against average, with 55 saves and two shutouts, with Craig Feehan has a 1.68 goals-against average with 20 saves and one shutout.
This marks the first meeting with the Raiders since the 1996 season. In the last meeting Wright State won the game 1-0 and owns the all-time lead in the series at 0-2-2.
UK Soccer Complex Game Day
Due to the ongoing construction of the $7.7 million renovations to the UK Soccer Complex, Kentucky soccer fans will experience some slight modifications to the game day experience during the 2013 season.
Tickets
All fans will be admitted into all games for the 2013 season for free for the duration of the season. Fans will also be allowed to re-enter the complex after initial entrance.
Seating
Seating will be all general admission for the season and seating will all be located behind the team benches on the grassy area opposite the construction site. Fans will be invited to bring their own chairs and blankets to enjoy the action. There will also be seating located behind the goals on each side of the facility, similar to years past.
Construction
Construction will be ongoing for most of the season, and the grandstand side of the facility will be shut down for the entirety of the season. Only credentialed members of the UK staff will be allowed over to that side of the complex.
Facility Entrance
All fans will be entering and exiting the facility using the existing student entrance located between the game field and the practice field. The existing entrance main gate will be shut down and fans will not be able to enter the facility through those gates, as they will be closed during the construction process.
Parking
Fans will be able to park in one of three locations for the season. The first-arriving fans will receive access to the gravel lot located directly across the main gate. Once that lot is filled, fans will be directed to park in the lot that borders the practice field off of College Way. In addition, similar to softball parking in 2013, there will be parking on the west side of College Way in the grassy area between the soccer/softball complex and Commonwealth Stadium. When there are no further available spots, fans will park in select lots of Commonwealth Stadium, which is in walking distance of the UK Soccer Complex. Parking lots will open three hours prior to game time. Handicapped parking will remain as seasons past, with parking available near the main gate in the paved lot.
