MEMPHIS, Tenn.- University of Kentucky sophomore women’s tennis player
Nadia Ravita fell just short of the main draw singles title at the USTA/ITA Regionals in Memphis, Tenn.
Tuesday in the women’s singles final of the five day tournament.
Ravita
,
who
is
ranked No. 26 in the nation and was the top seed in the tournament
,
had a tough route to the finals. In a challenging match against Vanderbilt’s Georgina Sellyn, Ravita
fell in the first
set, 6-2
before she
tried to make a comeback in the second but was defeated 6-3.
It
was Ravita’s fourth straight
match against a
Vanderbilt player at the
ITA Regionals
. All
four
of her opponents were seeded in the regional
,
with Sellyn seeded the highest at No. 3. Ravita finished the weekend with a 5-1 record.
The second-place finish was the highest finish for a
UK team since 2007. Last season, the ITA Regionals ended for the
Wildcats
in the singles round of 16 and in the doubles quarterfinals.
Kentucky will return to action next Friday, Oct. 25 for the Tennessee Fall Invite.
