Sept. 13, 2013 –

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky cross country team will host the program’s first home meet in six seasons on Saturday at Masterson Station Park.

The meet’s field will include Kentucky’s defending Southeastern Conference Champion and All-American Cally Macumber as well as the defending men’s national champions and currently top-ranked Oklahoma State men’s team, in addition to the No. 11 EKU men’s squad.

The 8,000-meter men’s race will begin at 9:30 a.m. ET and the 5k women’s race will go off at 10:10 a.m.

Each and every Wildcat in Saturday’s field will race within the Lexington city limits for the first time during their collegiate careers.

UK last hosted a cross country meet in 2007, when the Wildcats staged the SEC Championships at the Kentucky Horse Park. Saturday will mark UK’s first regular season home meet since in 1990s.

The UK cross country season began two weeks ago on a scorching day at the Belmont Opener in Nashville, Tenn. The UK men will step up their distance by 3k from the 5k they covered two weeks ago.

The UK men were led by a fourth-place finish from senior Matt Hillenbrand. Sophomore transfer Zack Beavin also impressed in his first outing as a Wildcat with a 14th place finish.

Macumber carried the banner for UK during the opener with a ninth-place finish, followed by fellow 2012 All-Region honorees Allison Peare and Anna Bostrom, as the seniors placed 13th and 16th respectively.

Both the UK men’s and women’s teams will be looking to make significant progress from their season-opening performances in Nashville.

Nine teams will take part in Saturday’s meet including Akron, Cincinnati, EKU, Louisville, the Miami (Ohio) men’s team only, College of Mt St Joseph’s, Oklahoma State and Transylvania.

Meet results will be available at UKathletics.com following the completion of the women’s collegiate race.
