BRYAN, Texas – With two rounds complete at the “MO”Morial Invitational, the University of Kentucky women’s golf team has an eight-stroke lead over the second place team, while freshman Haley Mills also finds her name at the top of the leaderboard.

The Wildcats are at 10-over as a squad, while the next closest teams, Virginia and Texas A&M, both sit at 18-over. UCF and East Carolina are tied for fourth at 20-over. Rounding out the standings are Florida State (+27), Texas A&M `B’ (+37), UTSA (+38), Rollins College (+46), Redlands CC (+64), Elon (+70) and Texas Pan American (+113). Kentucky had by far the best team score in the second round, shooting a four-over 292.

Mills continues to lead the way for Kentucky after going into the clubhouse with an even-par 72 on the day. For the second straight afternoon, the Tyler, Texas, native finds her name in first place at two-under. If not for bogies on holes No. 16 and 17, she would have taken a three stroke lead into the final round. In all, she has eight birdies through two rounds and will look to take home first place tomorrow in her first collegiate tournament.

“We had another solid day here at Traditions (Club),” said Kentucky head coach Golda Johansson Borst. “The girls are continuing to play with poise and patience and it is really paying off. Haley (Mills) and Sarah (Harris) are playing with a great deal of maturity and it’s exciting to have two of our Wildcats at the top of the leaderboard. Tomorrow, the plan is to continue to stay patient and just play our game.”

Sophomore Sarah Harris sits just one stroke behind Mills in a tie for second place at one-under. Harris will enter the final round with a lot of confidence after she birdied four of her last six holes. The Hermitage, Tenn., native posted a two-over front nine to start the day, but quickly erased that with a three-under back nine. Her second round score of 71 was one of only three under-par rounds on the day.

After recording a first round score of 77, senior Liz Breed came out in the second round and registered an even-par 72. Breed had two birdies on the back nine to finish off a solid round of golf. She remains at five-over for the tournament and tied for 15th.

Freshman Alessandra Walker wrapped up her second round of play with a five-over 77. She currently sits in a tie for 28th at eight-over as the final round approaches tomorrow.

Sophomore Cylia Damerau recorded a five-over 77 for the second straight day. The Cham, Switzerland, native sits in a tie for 37th at 10-over. Freshman Megan Kinney finished the day with a 12-over par 84. She enters the last day of play in 53rd at 17-over, playing as an individual.

The teams return to the course Wednesday morning with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. ET.
