LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky men’s golf team will look to open the 2013-14 season on the right foot, as the Wildcats head to Sugar Grove, Ill., for the Northern Intercollegiate, Sept. 6-8, under head coach Brian Craig.
The Wildcats will be represented by seniors Cody Martin, Stephen Powers and Ben Stow, juniors Will Bishop and David Snyder and sophomore Harrison Greenberry this weekend.
“I love this team and can’t wait to get the season started at the Northern Intercollegiate,” said Craig, who is in his 13th year as UK head coach. “It is a new event and a great way to kick off the new season.”
For the third consecutive fall, Rich Harvest Farms and the NIU men’s golf team will host the Northern Intercollegiate. Indiana (2012 winner), St. Mary’s and Liberty all return after placing in the top three at last year’s tournament. It is the first appearance for UK in the tournament. The course is a par-72 layout with a total distance of 7,236 yards.
“The golf course, Rich Harvest Farms, is one of the most demanding courses that we play all year and a host site for this spring’s NCAA Regionals,” Craig said. “We are ready to go and see how great this team can become this year.”
The 54-hole stroke-play tournament will begin Friday at 9 a.m. The teams are scheduled to play 18 holes each day, with the tournament wrapping up on Sunday with the final round of 18 at 9 a.m. All times are Eastern.
Kentucky is one of 15 schools competing in the season-opening tournament. The Wildcats will be joined by Ball State, Central Florida, Houston, Indiana, Liberty, Louisville, Miami (Ohio), North Texas, Northern Illinois (host), Ohio State, San Diego, St. Mary’s, UT-Arlington and Virginia.
Following the Northern Intercollegiate, UK will travel to Zionsville, Ind., for the Wolf Run Invitational held Sept. 21-22 at the Wolf Run Golf Club.
