Lexington, Ky. – University of Kentucky junior men’s golfer Cody Martin has been named to the Southeastern Conference Community Service team, the league office announced on Wednesday.

Martin was honored for his hard work in the community by the league office after devoting hours of his time and energy volunteering at events at Morton Middle School, God’s Pantry Back Pack program and the Bluegrass youth for Christ. The Union, Ky., native also participated in the CATS Cultivating Character and Breakfast with Santa programs, while spending time as a visitor at the Shriner’s Hospital.

It is the first time in Martin’s career to be named to the SEC Community Service Team. He was recognized to the Academic All-SEC team in 2009-10 and 2010-11.

Martin competed in all 12 tournaments for the Wildcats on the year, posting a stroke average of 76.36.  The junior recorded three top-20 finishes, including a season-best tied for 12th finish at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate.

The annual SEC golf Community Service Team recognizes the superior community service efforts of the league’s student-athletes. The SEC Community Service Team consists of one student-athlete from each SEC institution, nominated by his school’s personnel, who has devoted himself to community service.

The SEC also sponsors community service teams for football, men’s and women’s basketball and the league’s men’s and women’s Olympic sports.
