LEXINGTON, Ky. – A complete game shutout from the Southeastern Conference’s Pitcher of the Year in Chelsea Thomas lifted No. 3 seed Missouri to a 3-0 victory over No. 2 seed Tennessee for a spot in the conference’s title game for the first time in school history. Thomas went the distance, yielding just five hits with no extra base hits or walks.
Missouri will tangle with top-seeded Florida for the league’s automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament and tournament crown tonight at 8 p.m. ET. The game is set to air live on ESPN.
Thomas quieted the Lady Vols bats and received strong performances at the dish by Jenna Marston and Kelsea Roth. Marston went 2-for-4 with a two-run double, while Roth connected for a solo homer in the top of the sixth inning to complete the scoring for the Tigers.
It was all the more cushion Thomas would need en route to a title game appearance for the Tigers who are competing in their first season in the SEC.
