LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky senior infielder Kara Dill has received two honors recognizing her hard work off the field in the last couple of days, being named as a member of the 2013 Southeastern Conference Community Service Team and recognized by the College Sports Information Directors of America as a Capitol One Academic All-District honoree, it was announced recently.

The SEC sponsors community service teams for all 21 league sponsored sports. The community service team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to her community in superior service efforts.

Even with her busy schedule as a student-athlete, Dill has found time for countless hours of community service while at UK. She has dedicated time to multiple organizations such as God’s Pantry, Salvation Army, YMCA and Southland Christian Church. She helps on campus too, giving her time to UK Fusion, a one-day campus community service event for UK students. Earlier this season, Dill was named to the Frank G. Ham Society of Character, which annually honors Wildcats who have shown an extraordinary commitment to academic excellence, athletic participation, personal development, career preparation and serving as a role model.

Dill’s focus and determination in the classroom led to her academic honor as she graduated three semesters early in December 2011 with her Bachelor’s degree. The native of LaGrange, Ohio, has continued to excel in graduate school, where she recently graduated with a Master’s degree in exercise physiology. Dill was one of 12 players selected to the CoSIDA Capital One team this season out of the second district.

Dill, who was a nominee for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award earlier this season, has made an impact on the field this year, as well. The two-time All-SEC second team honoree leads Kentucky in batting average at .363 (29-for-80) with 29 runs scored, one double, one triple and seven stolen bases. The shortstop was injured in UK’s second SEC series of the season, but has returned and recorded a single in her lone at-bat last weekend against Alabama. Dill led UK in batting average each of the last two seasons, while the infielder’s name is spread throughout the UK record books, ranking top 10 all-time in hits, batting average, triples, runs scored and stolen bases.
