LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky men’s tennis team has earned the No. 8 overall seed in this week’s Southeastern Conference Tournament, it was announced on Sunday night. UK will face the No. 9 overall seed, Mississippi State on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. CT.

The 2013 SEC Tournament will be held in Oxford, Miss., and will be hosted by the University of Mississippi. The number one overall seed in the championship is the third-ranked and SEC Champion Georgia Bulldogs, who went 12-1 in SEC play this season.

The Wildcats and Mississippi State have faced off two times this season already, with UK winning both prior matches. The first match saw Kentucky sweep MSU 4-0 at the ITA National Indoor Championships in Seattle, Wash., in the Sweet 16. Kentucky claimed the doubles point, and got wins from Kevin Lai, Grant Roberts and Tom Jomby in the blanking of the Bulldogs.

In the SEC regular-season meeting, the Wildcats captured a 4-2 win, with the Wildcats dropping the doubles point, but clobbering MSU in singles with wins from Anthony Rossi, Charles Minc, Roberts and Lai.

The SEC Tournament will get underway on Wednesday, April 17 at 1:00 p.m. CT with the opening-round game between (12) Alabama and (13) Arkansas at 1:00 p.m. CT. Thursday will feature four matches with LSU taking on South Carolina, Auburn vs. Vanderbilt, Ole Miss against the winner of Alabama/Arkansas, and concluding with the Wildcats taking on Mississippi State.
