LEXINGTON, Ky. – The eighth-ranked University of Kentucky men’s tennis team will welcome Southeastern Conference opponents Alabama and Auburn to Lexington this weekend for another weekend of SEC action on Friday and Sunday at the Hilary J. Boone Varsity Tennis Center.
Kentucky comes into the weekend in a tie for third place in the SEC, and tied with Tennessee and Vanderbilt for second place in the SEC East Division with a 4-3 SEC record. Kentucky has faced both division leaders, and every team in the conference with a winning conference record so far on the season.
The latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings have Kentucky slotted eighth in the nation, and the Wildcats are the third-highest team in the rankings from the SEC only trailing No. 3 Georgia and No. 5 Tennessee, who both defeated Kentucky last weekend in Lexington.
Both Tom Jomby and Anthony Rossi improved their individual rankings from the previous poll, as Rossi will enter the weekend ranked No. 18 nationally and Jomby upped his ranking to No. 28. Those two positions are up from No. 31 and 32, respectfully. Jomby and doubles partner Kevin Lai are No. 19 in the nation, up from No. 23 in the past rankings.
Alabama enters the weekend 12-7 (3-4 SEC). The Crimson Tide are coming off a 4-1 loss to South Carolina and are slotted No. 31 in the ITA rankings as a team. The Tide and Wildcats will face off on Friday at 2:00 p.m. ET in Lexington.
Sunday’s match will feature Auburn 11-6, (3-4 SEC) and Kentucky. The Tigers are fresh off a big 4-0 sweep of Florida at home on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers are ranked No. 32 nationally.
