March 26, 2013

Awendaw, S.C. – The University of Kentucky men’s golf team concluded their final round of the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate, shooting an 8-over-par, 296, finishing tied for 10th in the 15-team field. The Wildcats completed the invitational at 44-over-par and have placed in the top-10 in all five of their spring tournaments thus far.

“I believe in this team like one cannot imagine,” head coach Brian Craig said. “We are putting pressure on the golf course but need to reduce the unforced errors. We will get there and I am actually encouraged after this week even though the result was not what we wanted. A big shout out to Stephen Powers for his solid and consistent play. He has improved a tremendous amount and it is great to see.”

Powers was impressive all week for the Cats and fired his best round of the event with a 2-under-par, 70 on Tuesday. The Naperville, Ill., native recorded his first top-5 finish of the year and the second of the season for the Wildcats. Powers tallied 12 pars and four birdies on the afternoon, finishing the tournament tied for fifth at 2-over-par.

Senior Chase Parker finished the tournament tied for 40th at 12-over-par after a 3-over final day. Parker charted a team-best 13 pars on Tuesday to go along with a birdie on hole No. 4.

Junior Ben Stow shot a 2-over-par, 74 on Tuesday, finishing tied for 47th at 14-over. The Salisbury, England native sank a team-high five birdies on the day to highlight his round.

Sophomore Will Bishop finished the tournament at 16-over-par, tying for 53rd, while junior Cody Martin placed 74th at 31-over.

Next up for Kentucky is the Gary Koch Invitational, April 8-9 in Tampa, Fla. For more information on the University of Kentucky men’s golf team please visit UKathletics.com and follow on twitter @UKMensGolf.
