TAMPA, Fla. – The Kentucky track and field teams opened the outdoor season in strong fashion individual competitors and relay teams combined to win events at the University of South Florida Bulls Invitational held Thursday and Friday on the USF campus.
“This trip was a combination of training camp, team building and solid competition,” head coach Edrick Floreal said. “I’m happy with the way our kids performed, trained and came together as a group.”
Andrew Evans wrapped up a great week with a win in the discus behind a new personal record mark of 59.27m/194’05”. The 2012 discus All-American took third in the shot put (16.39m/53’09.25”), and second in Thursday’s hammer throw with a PR 56.94m/186’10”.
Keffri Neal won the 1,500 meters with a personal-record time of 3:51.60. Teammate Adam Kahleifeh also posted a PR time of 3:51.94 to finish in second-position.
Raymond Dykstra showed off his 2012 All-America credentials in the javelin with a meet-winning performance of 67.84m/222’07”
Keith Hayes built off the momentum he accumulated over the last few weeks of his All-America indoor season winning his first 110-meter hurdles race of the season in 14.02. Darryl Bradshaw took third in the event with a time of 14.27, and Brandon Bagley placed seventh (14.54).
Kayla Parker won the 100-meter hurdles with a PR 13.51 performance.
Kentucky swept the men’s and women’s 4×100-meter relays as the women’s team of Tamyah Pipkin, Morganne Phillips, Julie Nunn and Keilah Tyson posted a time of 44.95.
The men’s team of Brandon Bagley, Ben Mason, Keith Hayes and Darryl Bradshaw finished its lap in 41.01.
Hiruni Wijayaratne enjoyed a strong day as she finished second in the 800 meters and third in the 1,500 meters. Her 800m time of 2:17.43 was more than a 12-second personal best, after she missed a PR in the 1,500 meters by just .28 seconds with a time of 4:37.81.
Terence Boyd took third in the triple jump with a mark of 14.48m/47’06.25”.
