LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams were each named College Swimming Coaches Association Scholar All-America teams this week for the Fall 2012 semester. Each team checked in on the list receiving its highest ranking in program history.
Kentucky women checked in with a cumulative GPA of 4.48, good for 12th in the country and third in the Southeastern Conference. The men earned a GPA of 3.17 which puts them 31st in the nation and third in the SEC.
“On both sides we had our best-ever semester for the men and the women,” said head coach Gary Conelly. “To see how well they finished inside the SEC and all of Division I swimming, I think that says a whole lot for these guys. I think it’s a pretty good example of the level of dedication in the water and out of the water.
“We’re really excited about that because it says a whole lot about the program. It certainly makes it easier to recruit to a program like that when you’ve done that well. The parents will say their kids can swim well and also excel as a student.”
