LEXINGTON, Ky. – After picking up a win over No. 36 Guillermo Alcorta 6-4, 7-5 on Sunday and picking up his fifth straight-sets win in five tries, University of Kentucky junior Tom Jomby was named the Southeastern Conference’s Player of the Week, it was announced by the conference office on Wednesday. 

In addition to Jomby’s singles win, Jomby was also the deciding match in the doubles point between No. 9 Kentucky and No. 8 Oklahoma as the Nantes, France, native paired with freshman doubles partner Kevin Lai to earn the 8-7 (5) win for UK and clinch the doubles point, which helped Kentucky upset No. 8 Oklahoma 4-3 on Sunday.

Jomby is currently ranked No. 15 in the country and sits tied atop UK’s team leaders with five singles wins on the season. Combined with his doubles record, Jomby has a 10-1 record on court in 2013. The junior also has been dominating his matches of late; recording 6-0 wins in three of his five opening sets.

Kentucky next takes to the courts on Sunday, Feb. 9, at 7:00 p.m. ET in Champaign, Ill., as the No. 7 Wildcats will battle No. 19 Illinois in a top-20 showdown. UK has already played, and defeated four teams ranked in the top 45 of the ITA standings and is in a stretch of matches in which it plays six matches in a row against top-50 teams in the nation.
