LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky track and field teams begin day one of competition at the Rod McCravy Memorial Meet on Friday inside Nutter Field House.

The meet is named in honor of its namesake, a former Kentucky track athlete who died in 1987 at the age of 19 while sleeping in his dorm room.

Friday’s action gets underway at 10 a.m. ET with the first men’s heptathlon event. Field events will dominate much of the day until distance events get back on the track with the women’s 5,000m starting at 8 p.m. ET.

Live streaming video coverage as well as live results will be available at UKathletics.com.

The Wildcats will be competing this weekend alongside the No. 1 Clemson women’s team, Southeastern Conference foe Missouri as well as Appalachian State, Chattanooga, Cincinnati, Eastern Kentucky, Florida A&M, Georgia Tech, Kentucky State, Louisville, Memphis, Middle Tennessee State, Missouri, Missouri State, Ohio State, Southern Illinois, UNC Ashville, Western Carolina, Western Kentucky, Marshall, University of Miami (Ohio).

The Wildcats’ women’s distance medley relay, which won the event at the Kentucky Invitational, will take the track at 8:40 p.m.

The Kentucky throwers have produced some of the standout performances of the young season.

Rebecca Famurewa headlines the Friday women’s weight throw for UK as her PR mark of 17.93m/58’10” from two weeks ago ranks No. 8 in the SEC.

Brad Szypka and Conner Neu will take part in the men’s weight throw on Friday as both produced marks at the Kentucky Invitational, which rank 16th and 17th in the SEC at the moment. Isiah Kent has the No. 29 weight throw in the conference. 2012 SEC discus champion and All-American Andrew Evans will also take part in the weight throw

Terence Boyd will compete in the men’s long jump, while Keilah Tyson and Kayla Parker will take part in the women’s long jump. Shelby Kennard, the UK all-time record holder in the pole vault, and Michelle Cantera will participate in that event on Friday. Alexys Nash, Joanne Imbert and Ryan Ratliff will all go in the high jump.

Admission this weekend is free.

Only a sophomore at the time of his passing, McCravy had already become one of the team’s leaders. A social work major, Rod is remembered as a dedicated, enthusiastic athlete who was a conscientious student and outstanding human being. He set the then-UK freshman record in the 400 hurdles and finished sixth at the TAC National Junior Championships. A meet named in Rod’s honor enables the Kentucky track and field family to remember him, as well as provide an on-going opportunity to speak to UK athletes about his impact on the program and those he surrounded.
