LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky Gymnastics team spent Monday morning at William Wells Brown Elementary School promoting the new “Gold Medal Effort” program.

Head coach Tim Garrison was joined by the rest of the team and coaching staff in speaking to students inside the school gymnasium. The team also greeted students with high fives in addition to performing fitness demonstrations.

The program encourages young students to give a gold medal effort in the areas of academic excellence, fitness and bully prevention.

“Gold Medal Effort” builds off the United States Gymnastics team gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

Interested elementary schools should contact Alexandra Ayer at alexandra.ayer@uky.edu to schedule the Gold Medal Effort.

The annual Blue/White Scrimmage will take place on Thursday, Dec. 6 at Memorial Coliseum. The event will feature an intra-squad scrimmage and serve as the final tune-up for the Wildcats before the 2013 season opener. Admission to the event is free.

The Wildcats will begin their regular-season schedule on Jan. 6 with a four-team meet between host California, Auburn and Arizona.
