LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky rifle team travels to Charleston, S.C., to face conference foe North Carolina State and host The Citadel on Saturday.

“We’re excited to get back on the road,” UK head coach Harry Mullins said. “It should be a nice trip, we’ve never been to The Citadel and we’re excited to head down there.”

The Wildcats (4-0) head south following a 4656 – 4577 win over Tennessee-Martin. Freshman Connor Davis led Kentucky with an aggregate score of 1170. Senior Henri Junghänel boasts a team-best in smallbore and air rifle season averages, 589.5 and 591.7 respectively. Junior Emily Holsopple holds a 590 air rifle average on the year.

“We’ve been working hard the last couple of weeks,” Mullins said. “We’ll see what we can do on the road now, compared to how we’ve done at home. We’ve put up some good numbers at home and hope to see the numbers translate to the road.”

No. 15 NC State enters the weekend following a first-place finish at the Southeastern Air Rifle Conference. The Citadel finished second at the SEARC event.

“These next three matches will close out the fall,” Mullins said. “We’re excited to show what we’ve been working on before we head into the break. The break will give us an opportunity to concentrate on specific things and improve our overall game.”

Junghänel, Emily Holsopple, senior Stacy Wheatley, senior Heather Greathouse and Davis will make up the air rifle lineup Saturday. The smallbore lineup consists of Junghänel, Emily Holsopple, junior Aaron Holsopple, Greathouse and Davis.

“We’re using six this weekend, may go deeper in the next couple matches,” Mullins said. “We will be narrowing it down more come spring to see which five we’ll use for the conference and NCAA championships.”
