SAN JOSE DEL CABO, Mexico – A strong performance from sophomore Will Bishop has the University of Kentucky men’s golf team in the hunt after round one of the Querencia Cabo Collegiate. The Wildcats as a team shot 11-over-par, 299 and are tied for second place, just three strokes off the leader Ole Miss.

Bishop is pacing the field and sits atop the leaderboard after carding a 2-under-par, 70. The sophomore recorded five birdies on the afternoon and is the leader by two strokes. Cody Martin also turned in a strong performance for the Cats, shooting a 2-over-par, 74 and is tied for 12th overall. Martin equaled Bishop, sinking five birdies on Sunday.

“The course was extremely difficult today,” head coach Brian Craig said. “Will and Cody played very solid rounds and kept us in a good position going into the second round. The other guys will bounce back tomorrow and help this team. Querencia is just a fantastic test of golf and extremely demanding off the tee. We just need to keep battling over these next 36 holes.”

Chase Parker recorded four birdies on the day and is tied for 31st at 5-over, while Stephen Powers is tied for 36th at 6-over. Sophomore David Snyder shot 12-over and is tied for 57th.

Freshman Harrison Greenberry is competing as an individual and is tied for 41st after posting a 7-over-par, 79.

Play will resume with round two of the 54-hole stroke-play tournament on Monday, with the final round of 18 coming on Tuesday. For more information on the University of Kentucky men’s golf team please visit UKathletics.com and follow on twitter @UKMensGolf.
