LEXINGTON, Ky. – After a second place finish at the Saint Mary’s College Invitational, the University of Kentucky men’s golf team returns to action this week at the Jack Nicklaus Invitational in Dublin, Ohio at the Muirfield Village Golf Club. The tournament is a 54-hole stroke-play event with 36 holes being played on Monday, Oct. 8 and the final round of 18 on Tuesday, Oct. 9.

“The Jack Nicklaus Invitational will be a great event for our guys to test their game against top tier competition and on a championship course,” head coach Brian Craig said. “Muirfield Village Golf Club is a spectacular golf course that also hosts the PGA Tour’s Memorial event. These are the type of events that help us prepare for the post-season and I can’t wait to see how we stack up.”

The Wildcats will send out the same lineup they have used in their first two tournaments of the year, which includes Stephen Powers, Cody Martin, David Snyder, Chase Parker and Will Bishop.

Powers recorded his second top-20 and first top-10 finish by placing in a tie for sixth at the Saint Mary’s Invitational. The junior concluded the event at 1-under-par and combined to shoot a tournament-best 9-under-par in the final two rounds. Snyder also claimed a top-10 finish with an even par invitational and was tied for eighth.

The tournament will begin with 36 holes on Monday and will open up with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. ET. The final round of 18 will be played on Tuesday beginning with the first tee time slated for 8:00 a.m.

Joining the Wildcats in the field are 10 teams including Arkansas, BYU, Kent State, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Purdue, San Diego, UCF, UNLV and Vanderbilt.

Along with the Jack Nicklaus invitational, UK will also send a lineup to the 2012 Bearcat Invitational, which will take place Oct. 8-9 at the Traditions Golf Club in Hebron, Ky. The event is a 54-hole stroke-play tournament and is scheduled to begin on Monday at 8:45 a.m. ET. The first day will consist of 36 holes with the final round of 18 coming on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.

Participating in the event for the Cats are senior Joseph Barr, freshman Harrison Greenberry, senior Seth Blann and junior Matthew Anderson.

The field consists of 13 schools and 14 teams including Austin Peay, Belmont, Cincinnati (two squads), Cleveland State, Dayton, Detroit, Eastern Kentucky, Marshall, Morehead State, Northern Kentucky, Wright State and Youngstown State.

“One of my main goals is to create as many playing opportunities as I can for our players,” Craig stated. “We have four guys who are getting to play as individuals in the Bearcat Invitational hosted by Cincinnati while the team is away at another event. Traditions Golf Club is a difficult course and it will be a Division I field. You have to compete to get better and this tournament will definitely help our guys to get that experience and continue to improve.”
