Zionsville, Ind. – The University of Kentucky men’s golf team kicked off their 2012 fall season on Saturday, shooting 18-over-par through 36 holes of play at the Wolf Run Invitational in Zionsville, Ind. UK currently sits in a tie for sixth place with the final round of the 54-hole stroke-play tournament beginning tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m.
The Wildcats bounced back with a second round score of 6-over-par 290 after a 12-over first round. The Cats are locked in a tie with Akron and are five shots off fifth place and 20 off the leader, Ohio State.
“We had a tough start today in the first round but played a little better in the afternoon,” head coach Brian Craig said. “The course will be setup much tougher tomorrow for the final round. We need to bounce back and finish strong.”
Junior Stephen Powers led the way for UK, posting back-to-back rounds of 1-over-par 72. Powers is at 2-over-par for the invitational and is tied for 15th overall.
Chase Parker is 4-over for the tournament after turning in a scorecard of 1-over-par 72 in round one and 3-over-par 74 in round two. The Augusta, Ga., native sits in a tie for 22nd.
Will Bishop and Joseph Barr struggled in the early going, carding round one scores of 7-over-par 78. The two responded in the second round, with both firing the lowest rounds of the day for Kentucky of 2-under-par 69. Bishop and Barr are 5-over and are tied for 28th. Barr is competing as an individual.
Junior Cody Martin was consistent on the day, shooting consecutive rounds of 4-over-par 75. Martin is 8-over for the tournament and is tied for 47th. Sophomore David Snyder is tied for 53rd after firing a 77 and 75, respectively, and sits at 10-over-par.
Freshman Harrison Greenberry shot 4-over-par 75 in the opening round before recording a 2-over-par 73 in the final round today. Playing as an individual, Greenberry is at 6-over and is tied for 33rd.
Seth Blann is also competing as an individual and carded back-to-back rounds of 9-over par 80. Blann is tied for 70th.
