LEXINGTON, Ky. – Junior Liz Breed and assistant coach Lucy Nunn will represent the University of Kentucky women’s golf program this week in the 2012 U.S. Women’s Amateur at The Country Club in Cleveland, Ohio, a par-72, 6,512-yard layout.

The seven-day event kicks off Monday morning with Breed and Nunn both teeing off at 1:00 p.m. ET, Nunn from the first tee box and Breed from the 10th. Nunn will be joined by UK head coach Golda Johansson Borst in Cleveland as Borst will serve as he caddie.

Nunn, 25, a graduate of the University of Arkansas, is competing in her first Amateur event in nearly four years. Nunn competed in the 2010 Women’s Open and regained her amateur status earlier in the summer.  

“It’s been four years since my last amateur event and a lot has changed. I got my amateur status back at the end of June and that was really important for me because I felt like professional golf had taken away something,” said Nunn. “Now being able to play again, at a level that is ever changing, is extremely exciting for me.”

As a senior at Arkansas, Nunn led the Razorbacks with an exceptional scoring average of 73.64, earning three top-10 finishes, including a first-place finish at the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic.

Breed, a native of Waynesboro, Pa., qualified in her home state, shooting a 73 in the York, Pa., qualifier.  Nunn qualified with a 71 at the Lexington, N.C., qualifier.

Breed finished her sophomore year with one top-10 finish, placing eighth at the Alamo Invitational with an 8-over-par 218. The Waynesboro, Pa. native finished with a 77.25 scoring average in 24 rounds played. Breed shot a season-best 70 in the first round of the SunTrust Gator Women’s Invitational.

The event will be televised on the Golf Channel Aug. 8-12, from 3-5 p.m. ET.
