LEXINGTON, Ky. – Led by two birdies and an eagle in the final round of play, incoming freshman Sarah Harris claimed a 6-stroke victory at the 49th annual Tennessee Girls’ Junior Championship in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

The 2011 Tennessee Girls Junior Amateur Player of the Year carded an even-par 71 in the final round of play on Thursday afternoon at Stones River Country Club. Harris entered the final round with a one-stroke lead but birdies on the first and fifth holes along with an eagle on the par-5 eighth hole enabled Harris to clinch the title by six strokes.

A native of Hermitage, Tenn., Harris finished the first round in a three-way tie after shooting a 3-over-par 74. Harris broke the tie in the second round, sinking a couple birdies to card an even-par 71 and take a one-stroke lead into the final round.

Harris joins the Wildcats as the 2011 Tennessee Girls Junior Amateur Player of the Year. The Player of the Year is selected based on a rankings system that reflects the abilities of junior Tennessee golfers participating in a diverse group of events with the rankings favoring local events to reduce economic favoritism and national championships to acknowledge impressive performances.

Harris also was named a 2010 and 2011 HP Scholastic All-American by the American Junior Golf Association. As a sophomore, Harris led Hermitage High School to a Division 2A State Championship.
