JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of Kentucky closed out the third and final day of the track and field NCAA East Preliminary round at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla., with the women’s 4×100-meter relay. With the east preliminary now in the books, the Wildcats will turn their attention to the NCAA Outdoor National Championships.
The women’s 4x100m relay team, led by freshman Tamyah Pipkin, sophomore Julie Nunn, junior Shiara Robinson and sophomore Kayla Parker, finished fifth in its heat with a time of 45.59.
The Wildcats will send freshman Raymond Dykstra, sophomore Andrew Evans and junior Luis Orta to the NCAA Outdoor National Championships, held this year in Des Moines, Iowa, from June 6-9.
On Thursday, Dykstra threw a mark of 222-09/67.91m in the javelin and Evans threw 182-07-55.67m in the discus. Both Dykstra and Evans finished eighth in their respective events. One day later, Orta ran a career-best time of 8:44.25 in the 3,000m steeplechase to finish fourth in his heat and 11th overall to qualify for the championships. Orta’s time is the second-fastest 3,000m steeplechase in UK history.
